Major Polish Pass


A MAJOR overhaul to the game has been done!

There's a lot of tweaks and changes, but the main changes are as follows:

Level generation

  • Levels now spawn with a weighted tile system. Certain tiles will spawn more or less often depending on their weight.
  • Added Black Hole tile
  • Added random teleporter tile
  • Bounce pads have been given a facelift- they now look much cooler!
    • They also have bigger collision, making them easier to hit.

UI

General UI has been given a new font, as well as some adjustments to make it cleaner and more clearly sectioned

The HUD has been completely overhauled!

  • Visual improvements have been done, giving the HUD a much more cohesive feel
  • Crosshair has been changed and enlarged
  • Left/Right ability cooldowns look nicer
  • UI now shows both cooldown and readiness of dash
  • Available walljumps are displayed next to dash
  • HP bar replaced with radial display
  • Lives has been changed to Shields, which are gained at end of level
  • Target Time now scales based on distance to goal
  • Level Seed is now display because its cool
  • HUD now includes screen effects for more feedback, like shield gained, damaged, or broken.
  • HUD now displays whenever points are gained

Audio

  • Music has been reworked to evolve based on speed, instead of randomly changing each level
  • UI buttons now make sound when clicked
  • All abilities have their own sound effects
  • Player movement has unique sound effects
    • Jump, land, slide, dash, etc.
  •  Various hazards now make sound
    • Black hole, sphere launchers + their spheres, lower killgrid
  • Various player interactions now make sound
    • Shield lost/damaged/gained, air whooshing, killgrid hit
  • Some helpful tiles make sound
    • Teleporter idle/entered
    • Point orb idle/collected
    • Bound pad used

Performance

  • Level generation is much faster due to more intelligent goal placing
  • Anti-Aliasing method changed to FXAA (from TSR)
  • Cube walls should be less intensive

Other

  • Engine version upgraded to Unreal 5.5
    • Save files are now stored in AppData as a side effect
  • Discord Presence has been removed (engine version not supported by plugin)
  • Main Menu and Game Over screens now have fancy moving walls
    • Main menu also has neat transition animation on start
  • Various minor player movement tweaks I cant remember specifics of
  • A ton of re-working and tweaking existing systems
